ISTANBUL – Turkey has received a major endorsement of its strategic global location with the official opening of a new, state-of-the-art global air transfer hub by FedEx at Istanbul Airport (IGA). The $130 million USD investment is designed to exploit Istanbul’s unique geopolitical position, linking European, Middle Eastern, and Asian markets, and is set to dramatically enhance Turkey’s role in international logistics and sourcing.

Spanning approximately 25,000 square meters, the new center is one of FedEx’s most advanced operational facilities in the region. Its capabilities are built around speed, efficiency, and integration:
- Capacity: Equipped with fully automated sorting systems, the facility can process up to 7,000 packages per hour (PPH).
- Connectivity: The hub is seamlessly integrated with FedEx’s extensive ground network, speeding up cargo flow between 45 countries.
- Advanced Technology: The facility incorporates advanced systems, including AI-powered security screening and specialized dangerous goods handling, enabling FedEx to offer faster and more flexible solutions to regional clients.
During the opening ceremony, FedEx executives emphasized that the new facility provides a competitive advantage not just regionally, but globally, confirming Istanbul as a primary artery for world trade.
